A Stray Dog Refuses To Leave His Injured Friend Until They Are Both Rescued

When Betty Walter received a text message from a friend about a dog injured by a car, she told the friend who to contact in order to get the dog the assistance she needed. Walter had rescued and fostered dogs before, but she was at work at the time and knew she didn’t have a place for them anymore. However, she couldn’t stop thinking about the puppy throughout the day, and when her shift finished, she drove out to check whether she’d been saved yet.

When Walter came, she saw that the dog, as well as another dog, were still guarding her.

Betty White and Allen, the dogs, had discovered a grassy location away from the road where Betty could relax. Allen was well aware that she was hurt, which is why he refused to leave her side. He sat there guarding her, frightening anyone who came too close. He clearly cared for her and want for her to be OK.

“There were a couple of dogs in the distance as I pulled up, and he chased them away,” Walter told The Dodo. “He raced toward me when I got out of my car to look at her… I had to reassure him that I was there to help him.”

As soon as she saw their sweet bond, Walter knew she had to make room for the dog best friends and took them home to foster them. She was worried if she didn’t, she might not find someone else to take them, and they could end up being separated.

“Here in Houston, it is hard to find fosters for big dogs,” Walter said.

Betty had a broken pelvis and needed surgery to fix it. Once the surgery was done, she went home to her new foster family to heal and be with Allen. As the weeks went on, it became clear to Walter just how bonded Betty and Allen really are. They love each other so much, which is why Allen wouldn’t leave her side when she got hurt. He just wanted to be with her no matter what.

Betty has to recuperate a little more before she can find her ultimate home. She requires heartworm medication and physical therapy, and Walter anticipates that she will be ready for adoption in a few months. Allen is theoretically ready at this point, but he’s not leaving Betty behind.

Betty and Allen simply want to find a loving home where they can be together after everything they’ve been through, and Walter is determined to help them.

“They need attention,” Walter explained. “They require someone who will lavish them with kisses and embraces.” To protect them and make them feel safe. Allen enjoys playing with toys, so he’ll need someone to throw the ball and chase with. Betty wishes to sleep in a bed at your feet.”
