A Rare Look At The Beauty Of Nature’s Oddities Was Provided By A Unique Baby Deer With Piebald

Deer Tracks Junction, an amusement park and farm hybrid in Cedar Springs, Michigan, is “all about Family, Animals, and FUN while producing lasting memories.” Deer Tracks Junction prides itself on allowing visitors to “view all types of wildlife “up close and personal,” all while strolling around the park.”

It seems like a fun time, but Deer Tracks Junction’s biggest and most unusual feature was its headliner, a particular, young deer with “Piebaldism.” Dragon was his name, and there haven’t been many creatures precisely like him in the entire world, but he was incredibly cute and absolutely unique.

Before arriving to Deer Tracks Junction, Dragon was rejected by his mother at birth.

“Piebaldism” is a disorder that Dragon suffers from.

Piebaldism is a skin and hair disorder marked by the lack of cells known as melanocytes in particular places. Melanocytes generate the pigment melanin, which is responsible for the color of your hair, eyes, and skin. The lack of melanocytes results in lighter-than-normal regions of skin and hair.

“Out of an estimated 28 million whitetail deer in North America, you may find it even more intriguing to discover that less than 2% of the whitetail deer population will be born piebald,” according to lifeinfingerlakes.com.

Dragon’s mother most likely abandoned him because of his piebald, which causes deer to lose their vision and hearing, making them more susceptible to predators.
Dragon was fortunate to be born in Deer Tracks Junction, where he could be cared for by people instead of his mother, who had abandoned him.
