When a guy noticed a puffin roaming about miles from the coast, seemingly bewildered and confused, a tranquil morning on a country lane rapidly turned into a weird spectacle.
The man realized the puffin wasn’t supposed to be there, so he carefully captured him and placed him in a box before bringing him home and contacting the RSPCA for help.
“It seems as though the puffin got lost and ended up landing inland, around three miles from the coast, and couldn’t then get airborne again,” Shane Lynn, an animal rescue officer with the RSPCA, said in a press release. “I was so excited when the call came in as I’ve never been out to a puffin before. But I was also worried about the little chap as I knew he shouldn’t be that far inland.”
Lynn walked out to fetch the young puffin, who appeared to be depressed at being so far from the sea. After taking him to the doctor for a checkup and offering him a well-deserved snack, it was found that he was perfectly well and had only gotten himself twisted about.
“Thankfully, he was unharmed, and we suspect he was simply disoriented and landed in the wrong place,” Lynn said.
Once he was given the all-clear, Lynn took the little puffin back down to the shore to release him — and as soon as he saw the ocean again, he instantly seemed to relax. He’d gotten lost, but some kind people had helped him find his way again, and he was so thrilled to finally be back home.
Lynn said, “He jumped down onto the sand and then soared off across the water and into the distance.” “It was quite magnificent to witness; there is no better feeling than releasing a wild animal to its natural habitat.”
