While animals and humans have quite diverse lifestyles, there are many commonalities that they share. And there’s something that governs all creatures: the emotional spectrum. Life allows us to experience a wide range of moods and emotions, and animals are no exception!

These two elephants demonstrate how very profound animal feelings can be. After 22 years apart, Shirley and Jenny, two former circus elephants, had a heartfelt and heartwarming reunion.

Before being sold to different camps, two pachyderms were trained to perform together in multiple exhibitions while they were young.

Keepers at Elephant Sanctuary were given the opportunity to witness such an emotional event as the duo recognized each other again after more than two decades. They appeared to rejoice, celebrate, and remain glued to each other as soon as their eyes met.

If you had stayed at that moment, you’d have burst into tears. The two wrap their trunks around each other in a loving embrace through the bar and tried to climb with each other. Watch the documentary here:

Jenny went dead in 2006 owing to a serious illness, as Carol Buckley, the Sanctuary’s Executive Director, regretfully informed. She lived with Shirley and her carers until she died. We hope Shirley can live happily with her other companions in the sanctuary, surrounded by the staff’s affection.
