You’ll need a lot of patience as a parent with your children since all they want to do is have fun. But, as it turns out, calmness is not on the menu when you’re a sleeping lion!
A wildlife photographer captured on camera a group of cheeky lion cubs that were curious about their father’s patience in a series of funny photographs. His small pups wanted to have some fun while the stately male was sleeping, and they thought his tail would be the perfect thing to play with.
The moment unfolded in Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve and the German photographer Ingo Gerlach was at the right place at the right time to capture the moment on camera. Speaking for MailOnline, the 66-year-old photographer explained: “There were about eight children[cubs]…they were like six weeks old. [The male] dozed at the edge of a bush and had no desire at all to take care of the family.”
The king’s patience was quickly tested, and he made it clear to his cubs that he was not in the mood. So he reasoned that his roar would be sufficient to keep them at bay. But, as the saying goes, “like father, like son,” and the courageous cubs continued to bother their father until he chose to find another location to slumber.
The lion dad got very grumpy, but not even his intimidating roar could keep the cubs at distance!
“The cheeky cubs discovered the bushy tail of their dad,” Gerlach said!
“They played with it for a short time until the father threatened them with licked teeth, but this only worked for a few seconds since the children were defiant and continued to anger their father. The lion fought for half an hour before fleeing to a neighboring thicket.”
