Maria Isabel Benites Chamba, who passed away last week at the age of 95, was buried in Ecuador. Chamba’s relatives and friends attended her burial to show their support, but one person in particular insisted on going above and above the call of duty.
It was Bumer, Chamba’s cherished pet. Until the very end, he wouldn’t leave her side.
During the wake for Chamba, organized by Funeraria Santa Rosa, Bumer stayed close by — just as he had done while she was alive.
“You could see the loyalty and affection that existed between her and her dog,” a spokesperson for the funeral home told The Dodo. “He was always there with his owner.”
When the ceremony ended, a procession formed to follow Chamba’s coffin to the cemetery. Bumer, of course, insisted on coming, too.
The funeral home spokeswoman stated that the man circled the hearse before boarding it as if to signal, “I want to go and say goodbye to my mom.” “A fantastic illustration of loyalty.”
Bumer was inconsolable, but it was also evident at that very time how much he loved Chamba.
Chamba may be gone, but Bumer’s loyalty endures. Hopefully, his damaged heart will start to mend with time, but he won’t have to go through this process by himself.
The small puppy was last seen with Chamba’s relatives, who had gathered together to remember the person they cherished so much, the funeral home said.
